8th May this year is Mother’s Day. It is that special day when we honor our mothers, the most special persons in our lives. The influence of a mother helps shape the child’s life. It is no surprise that children want to celebrate this special day.

Mother’s Day is when you can thank your mother for giving birth to you and being a part of your life. Giving gifts is a good way of celebrating this day. Instead of the usual mass-produced gifts, a handmade gift is a great idea.

A handmade gift is a special way of letting your mother know how much you care for her. We have some ideas to help you make gifts for this very special day. Choose from any of these ideas and create a great gift to bring a smile to your mother’s face.

Handmade Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

1. A Bouquet Wrap

A simple and touching gift for your mother is a bouquet. Instead of buying a ready-made bouquet, make one yourself. Pick fresh blooms yourself and create a wrap with a special message for your mother. This is a gift that will definitely bring a smile to your mother’s face.

2. Handmade Soap

A sweet-smelling handmade soap is a great gift idea. Melt goat’s milk soap base in a double boiler. Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil and a couple of drops of purple soap dye. Pour into soap molds and allow to set.

Repeat this exercise using lemon essential oil. Pour this over the lavender soap layer and allow both to set together. This hand-crafted scented soap is a gift your mother will love.

3. A Decorative Vase

Buy a new vase or take an already existing vase and decorate it. You can take paper-mache of different colors. Cut them into different shapes and paste them on the vase. Place your mother’s favorite flowers in the vase and fit them. This is guaranteed to bring a smile.

4. Gilded Photo Ornaments

A gilded photo ornament is a photo on a disc that can be hung on the wall. You can take some of your favorite photos with mom as well as other family photos. You can even use interesting or whimsical Mother’s Day stock photos to give your gift a unique appeal. Collect 4 or 5 photos. To create a nostalgic effect, print them in black and white.

Get round discs made of wood and stick the photos on the disc. Use ribbon to create a loop and stick it on the disc. You can now hang the discs on the wall. Your mom will be happy to see old and pleasant memories always.

5. Hand painted mugs

When mom has tea in the morning, she would love to have tea in a mug hand-painted by you. It is very simple. Buy a mug with a plain color and no design on it. Get acrylic paint and use it to sketch the drawing of your choice. You can get a gold paint marker and use it to create gold-color designs on the mug.

You can even write a message to show your love for your mother. Autographing it is also a good idea. Allow the paint to dry, it may take a week or more. Else, bake in an oven for 30 minutes at least. Don’t give the mug by itself. Fill it with candies and gift it on Mother’s Day.

6. A Map Décor

This is an interesting gift idea where you create a décor using a map. This idea is suitable for those who have changed homes a lot. A map with all the places you have lived marked on it can create nostalgic memories.

Cut out the areas from a map in a circular shape and stick them on paper. Make a neat title with the names of the places. Preferably write by hand to create a personal touch. Place the sheet in a frame so it can be hung on the living room wall. This is a gift your mother will surely like.

7. Bath Tea Bags

These are like tea bags, with the only difference being they are used in baths to have a relaxing bath. This is how you can make the bath tea bags:

  • Mix a cup of Epsom salt with a few drops of any essential oil of your choice.
  • Add this mixture into an empty organza bag until it is half-filled.
  • Top it up with a tablespoon each of calendula, lavender, roses, and chamomile.
  • Make a knot in the bag and store it in an airtight jar.

This is a great gift your mother will enjoy using. It is simple to use; just dump the bag in the bathwater a few minutes before taking a bath.
